RAMSoccer – 2010

 

The RRHS Boys Soccer Program consists of 3 teams that play a full schedule of games in the fall, from August to early November.  All boys enrolled in Rio Rancho High School are eligible to tryout if they have at least a 2.0 GPA for the previous semester (except incoming 9th graders), no serious discipline problems, and all of the required paperwork.

 

Everyone plays hard on game day. Champions play hard every day.

 

OFF-SEASON TRAINING:

  • Senior Day: Seniors only, Monday, May 31, 9:00am, RRHS lower field (behind gym)
  • Start date for all other players: Tuesday, June 1st , at the fields on High Resort
  • Summer Workouts:

JUNE (and July 1)

FITNESS:        Mondays and Wednesdays,  10:00 -11:30am (later time allows for World Cup!)

RRHS gym weight room; to improve speed, strength, and agility

(The gym will be closed in mid July, so we’ll do all field days then)

SOCCER:        Tuesdays  10:00am – 11:30 am  - skills work, bring your own ball!

                        Thursdays  10:00am – 11:30am  -  scrimmages

JULY   ***Notice the time change!!! (World Cup will be over)

FITNESS:        Monday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 7,  9:00 -10:30am,

RRHS gym weight room – Last weight room days!

The gym will be closed starting July 12, so we’ll do all field days thereafter

SOCCER:        Tuesdays  9:00am – 10:30 am  - skills work, bring your own ball!

                        Thursdays  9:00am – 10:30am  -  scrimmages

Rio Rancho Sports Complex   (a.k.a. fields on High Resort)

            CAMP WEEK: July 26 – 30, every morning 8:00am – 10:00am at the fields,

                                      Every evening a scrimmage at Sandia Prep against other schools

                                     

(There will be unofficial pick-up games with CHS, Tues at CHS and Thurs at RRHS, 6:00 – 7:30pm)

               

NOTE:  Off-season workouts and camps are optional.  Attendance at summer workouts and/or camps does not guarantee a spot on the team. Tryouts are required.

 

PHYSICALS :

            All players are required to have a current physical exam on file before being allowed to participate in school athletic activities. This physical must be done after May 1st.

*** PHYSICAL DAY***  (Everyone there will be a volunteer so BE NICE and PATIENT!)

            Who: RRHS and Cleveland HS athletes

            When: Thursday, May 20th, 4:30 – 6:00pm for RRHS athletes (go early)

            Where: Cleveland HS front office health center

            Cost: $20.00 (checks to CHS Athletics)

            Bring your physical packet!!! (must have parent signature to get physical)

           

 

RRHS BOYS CAMP WEEK: July 26 – 30

(This is somewhat different this year, so read carefully)

Morning training: 8:00am – 10:00am, at RRHS; fitness and skills to prep for tryouts

Evening Scrimmages: by invitation, at Sandia Prep against other schools, times TBA;

There will be a small fee for the week to help cover referees, etc. (hopefully only about $10), pay Mon.

 

 

REQUIRED PAPERWORK: Packets can be picked up from the Athletic Office at RRHS or downloaded from the RRPS Athletics website and must be turned in before the player can participate in tryouts!

 - Physical Form (signed by doctor, after May 1)           - Proof of insurance

 - Permission to Practice form                                       - Grade check (except for incoming 9th graders)

 

  • NOTE: Turn in all paperwork to the RRHS Athletic Office (in the gym), whereupon you will get a Permission to Practice slip, which you will bring to tryouts.

 

TRYOUTS:

(Show up in good physical condition with Permission to Practice slip; attend ALL sessions of tryouts)

  • Monday, Aug. 9 – Friday, Aug. 13 (with Saturday Aug. 14 as an additional day if needed)

Monday Aug. 9, 6:30am at RRHS behind the gym (Fitness Test)

Tuesday Aug. 10, 6:30am, hopefully on new fields at the high school!

Mon – Fri. Aug. 9-13, 4:30 – 7:30pm, hopefully on new fields at the high school!

  • Teams picked and posted by midnight, Friday, Aug. 13 (or Saturday, Aug. 14 if needed)
  • Saturday, Aug. 14 – first practice/meeting with teams, if not needed for tryouts (times TBA)

 

NOTE: Players must have all paperwork turned in prior to tryouts to participate. 

 

SELECTION OF PLAYERS:

            Players will be selected by the coaching staff based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:  FITNESS, SKILLS, SIZE/STRENGTH/SPEED, POSITION, DEDICATION, and ATTITUDE.

 

COSTS:  

Upon making a team, each player will purchase at least one Practice Set (shorts, 2 shirts, socks) for $70 or less, depending on fundraising success.  However, if a player makes a team and cannot afford to pay, we will make other arrangements. Money is not a requirement to play soccer at RRHS.

 

EXPECTATIONS OF RRHS SOCCER PLAYERS:

·        Full effort and good behavior in the classroom

·         Attend ALL practices, games, and team functions (with a positive attitude)

·         Wear team colors at practices and games

·         Exemplary conduct at all times, on and off the field

 

FUNDRAISING:

            Players may be asked to participate in fundraisers over the summer (t-shirt sales, car washes, etc.).

June 11 – World Cup begins!!!

July 11 – World Cup final!!!

July 12 – RRHS gym closed

July 26 – 30  - RRHS Boys Camp Week, includes Prep scrimmages for varsity candidates

Aug. 2- 6  - RRHS Pre-Season camp; new players are encouraged to attend to get a feel for tryouts; mornings at RRHS; run by Coach Balzis (RRHS Girls Head Coach)

Aug. 9 – 13 – TRYOUTS!!!

Aug. 12 – First day of school

 

PARENTS

 

            You, Parents, are a vital part of our soccer program.  We want, and need, any and all positive participation we can get from you.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

·        Make sure players are taking care of business in the classroom

·        Make sure players are eating healthy food  (No junk food ) and getting enough sleep

·        Attend games and support players in a positive manner

·        NO negative comments from sidelines or stands during games

·        Any labor or expertise you can provide to help finish our field complex

·         Participate, at your comfort level, in the Booster Club and/or its activities.
